Qatar

On February 22 teachers from Qatar are coming to Churchill Alternative School to see if they want to open an alternative school  in Qatar.

Qatar's population is 1,870,041.

Canada's population is 34,482,779!

Compared to Canada, Qatar doesn't have a lot of people if you think about it but it still has a lot of people!

Here are two facts about Qatar:

In Qatar the main language is Arabic but some people speak English as a second language.

Some Natural Resources are, Petroleum, Natural gas, Fish.

An alternative school is a great place to learn because it is not competitive so when you lose a game then you know it was just a game and you weren't going to get a prize for winning. Also since they don't give grades then you don't feel mad at yourself for getting a "bad" grade.

Skate today

Today I did the skate on the canal.
Me and my Dad skated about half the Canal, and my sister went the whole way.
Once we finished the skate me and my dad went to the restaurant, because if you were with the Ice CAPAIDS you got free Hot Chocolate.
After that me my dad and my sister took the snow bus to a Beaver Tail place and since my sister already had a Beaver Tail I got one (It was to sweet for my liking) and my dad got a poutine that my sister nibbled on (I also did) then our mom picked us up and we went home.
It was really tiring!

Stop Sharks Being Killed

Stop Sharks being killed.
Every year about 100 million Sharks are killed.

  • Shark fins for thousands of dollars soup
  • Shark teeth for jewelry
  • Shark Jaws for tourist souvenirs
  • Shark Skin for leather wallets/belts
  • Shark cartilage capsules and powders for phony medical cures
  • Shark liver oil for cosmetics/skincare products
Did you know that people go line fishing for shark fins, then they cut off their fins and just throw them back into the Ocean!
Since Sharks can not swim without fins, they drown.
Doesn't that make you angry!
I can understand how cavemen killed mammoths, because they used the whole thing, but when we only use the fins we are wasting lots.

The Sea Shepard is a great campaign that is against Shark Finning.
Basically they go around in their boat and when they find someone Shark Finning they do whatever it takes to stop them.

They made a Movie called Shark Water I highly recommend it, it made me cry and get so angry at the people who were Shark Finning, I said to myself why do they do that? Then I remembered that Shark Fins are Thousands of Dollars, so I think that they do it for the money.

Where Project

The Where Project is were you find an item and trace it back to were it came from.
You can enter a contest and try to win money for having the most interesting and unique project or item.
This year our class is doing the Where Project, we do not have to enter the actual competition because we are just doing it for fun.

Did we do Social Studies?
Please tell me if you want, what your favourite subject in school is.

Kiva

On Kiva you make a micro loan, to someone who needs it.
Did you know that by donating $25 you change their life completely!
So donate now!!

UNICEF

UNICEF stands for United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund.

At some Schools you get an envelope and you can collect money from your family and people in your neighbourhood.

When you donate you make a school in a developing country a better place by buying them school supplies, water pump, school tent, etc.

Once you donate you are a HERO for many.

Do you love school?

If you do, then you make someone in a less fortunate country get the chance to go to school and have the fun of learning!!!

I will be skating on the canal to raise money to fight AIDS in Africa.
It is with my Dads work, please donate here!

All across the continent of Africa, communities are facing the challenge of HIV. When HIV&AIDS affects an individual, entire families can become vulnerable.
Every where you turn, there are committed community members who are doing their part - giving care and support to people living with AIDS, providing for orphans and spreading awareness.

If you work at WUSC then please comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pennies for Polio

Pennies for Polio is a fund to raise pennies to erase Polio from the face of this earth!!!
Since pennies have stopped being made, and they are pretty much worthless, we can donate all of them to save the lives of the people on this earth.
Would you rather watch people suffer, or save them and be a HERO!!!! (Please vote before February, 14, 2013)
So donate TODAY!!! Because by donating 60 cents you save ONE live from this life threatening disease.
